Taxpayer service and public
trust improved with continuous innovation in Hometax

The number of visitors to
the NTS Hometax website exceeded 300 million on July 6, 2009.

The Hometax service was
first started on April, 2002. The number of visitors rose to 100 million in
July, 2006 and, in just three years, the number exceeded 300 million in July
this year.

To celebrate the occasion,
on Aug. 4, the NTS presented the 300 millionth visitor with a laptop computer
and also gave the 299 millionth and 301 millionth visitors small gifts.

Hometax allows taxpayers
to easily do their tax works. Taxpayers can report and pay taxes, get tax-related
certificates and calculate capital gains tax and gift tax on the Hometax website.

Currently, about 11 million
taxpayers are using the Hometax service. As for corporate income tax, 96 percent
of
the tax returns and, for VAT, 75 percent of the returns are filed through Hometax.

Korean taxpayers’ high
e-filing rate can be attributable to the variety and usefulness of the service
and the improvement of service quality.

Hometax provides various
useful services including information service customized to each taxpayer, such
as searching for the record of past income amounts and tax amount withheld and
another service to check whether a household owning one house can receive exemption
on capital gains tax if it has just one house.

Hometax achieved ISO 20000
Certification, the international standard for IT service, in IT service management,
increasing taxpayer convenience in using the service.

The NTS will continue to
make efforts to improve tax service quality and public trust so that taxpayers
do their various tax works at home or office without having to visit a district
tax office.
